Sometimes I ask myself when it is time to stop learning. I still do not have an answer to that. I just love learning so much that I find myself looking for another course to study even before I have completed the current.
I just like the idea of learning something new. It makes me feel like my life is improving in ways that make me feel fulfilled. The sense of accomplishment that I feel after every completed course is just something that I am addicted to.
Is that weird for you or what? Well, I am not ashamed of it and I am proud of the degrees that I have accumulated over the years.
Accumulating degrees over the years
The first degree that I got is a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. This took me the usual 4 years to complete. I also minored in English while taking up this course. After that, I completed my postgraduate certificate in education. It allowed me to take my teaching career to the next level. Did that mean it was time to stop learning? Of course not!
When that was done, I was ready for the next degree. I took up another course – this time in Journalism. I concentrated in multimedia journalism. I wanted the opportunity to be able to shift into a new career when I get tired of teaching. So far, I haven’t really gotten tired of it. I love teaching kids. I love the fact that I get to set the pace in their learning. If they have a good time learning in my class, there is a possibility that they would love learning as much as I do.
Now, I am in the middle of yet another course – my masters. This will help me go higher in my profession – possibly opening the door for me to teach in universities. But that is still far in the future. But I am finishing my masters nevertheless.
Right now, that I what I am working on and it is taking up a lot of my time. It is exhausting but I am feeling a different kind of adrenaline as I pursue this phase in my education. For sure, there will be a lot of opportunities for me in my career. But beyond that, I like that I have a couple of degrees under my name. It is an accomplishment that I will always be proud of.
Getting a lot of degrees
While I want to encourage you to get more than one degree, it will really depend on how much you love learning. This, admittedly, is not for everybody. There are also a lot of things to consider when you have plans to get more than one degree.
For one, you have to consider what type of degree you will get. Ideally, you want multiple degrees that you can use in the same sector. For me, I took up education, english and journalism. I can use all of these in my teaching career.
You should also consider the college that you will enroll in. You have the option to study in an actual classroom – or you can enroll online. Both will get you a degree. It is important to understand the rules that the specific college or university has about multiple degrees. Some have limits while others might not be credited when you try to pursue a higher degree.
Learning for me is so much fun that I do not think it is time to stop just yet. But while this is true, I am still cautious about the degrees that I will pursue. Learning costs money and I want to make sure that every educational investment that I make will prove to be useful in the future. You should consider that as well.
